The search engine optimization rap

Filed under: search engine optimization, seo — content @ 8:00 am

This track, called Design Coding by The Poetic Prophet, has just been uploaded on YouTube. I thought it was hilarious the first time I saw it, and it’s still very amusing on the fourth viewing. I’m not an expert on search engine optimization, but the advice provided here is, as far as I know, accurate.

Recession Proof Search Engine Optimization Tips | Online Marketing Blog

Filed under: marketing, search engine optimization, seo — content @ 8:00 am

In this month’s Target Marketing Magazine, a TopRank authored article on how small businesses can gain a competitive marketing advantage by leveraging content promotion, blogs, social media and universal search was featured. Recently there has been some dialog and commentary on certain SEM channels about upcoming harder economic times calling for SEO to be taken back to the basics: “Textbook SEO” as Mike Grehan would put it. I disagree with the premise that companies should stop experimenting with new tactics and stick with the fundamentals. Effective SEO in any economic environment means getting more creative, not mundane.

Search Engine Optimization Tips

Misconceptions about search engine optimization are common. One of the most common is that once a site is built and submitted to the search engines, heavy traffic is on its way. Another is that when making a submission to each engine, a site will be registered immediately and will stay listed with that engine for as long as it is in operation. That’s just not how it works… not even close!

On-Site Optimization:
On-site optimization is exactly that, it is the process of optimizing site layout and site content to target specific search terms for improved search engine rankings. This process involves placing targeted search terms in specific places on the pages of the website in order for search engine spiders to crawl and rank the page for those targeted search terms. These places include…

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - Making Good Use Of Press Releases And Other Techniques

Filed under: Web Site Maintenance, keywords, marketing, seo — content @ 8:00 am

The art of search engine optimization (SEO) is not about instant gratification, as the results generally may take some time to bear fruit, and would be particularly true if your a beginner in the online marketing world. It’s also a fact that SEO isn’t a one-time event, as most search engine algorithms regularly change and fluctuate, therefor the methods that worked well the previous year may not be guaranteed to work this year. This task fully requires a long-term outlook and commitment from you and your optimization experts.

Search engine optimization secrets

Filed under: Web Site Maintenance, search engine optimization, seo — content @ 8:00 am

Every now and then someone gets up on their soapbox and claims there are no secrets to search engine optimization. I would have to say that because 90% of all SEOs appear to be following the limited advice given out on SEO blogs and forums there are probably relatively few secrets in the industry. But there are secrets, though they are “not all of a kind” as one of my favorite writers might have put it.

The Benefits of an Internet Marketing Center

Novices to the world of e-commerce are often reluctant to seek assistance from an Internet marketing center. Trying to go it on your own when you are first starting up your e-commerce business can be tough, however; especially if you have no prior knowledge or experience in search engine optimization. It can also be extremely frustrating if you do not possess a thorough knowledge of how the Internet and search engines work. With the number of easy to use web page design software packages out there it can be pretty simple to have your site up and running in no time. Driving traffic, and more importantly, paying customers to it is another thing altogether, however.

Search Engine Optimization And W3C Search Engine Optimization Journal

Filed under: search engine optimization, seo, w3c — content @ 8:00 am

How relevant is W3C when it comes to search engine optimization? Possibly more than you think. W3C is considered by many to be an industry standard for all web sites concentrating mainly on the coding used to create a web page. You may wonder what a page’s code has to do with search engine optimization? One of the major aims of W3C is to set a standard for page coding. Part of this standard is the use of style sheets for formating and strict code standards. This has the effect of reducing the amount of code required to publish a page in a browser. Other aspects include ensuring that page code’s display in all browsers.

Three Search Engine Optimization Strategies That Are False

Filed under: google, meta, rankings, search engine optimization, seo — content @ 8:00 am

This is still the biggest one out there. Once upon a time, many years ago, keyword meta tags mattered. Then people started “stuffing” their website meta tags with hundreds of terms, not just 4 or 5 that were true. This caused Google and the others to say “forget it”… our results are now off from these abused meta tags. Nowadays it is good to still have meta tags on each page with 4 to 6 terms (my recommendation) that are actually on the page, but the search engines barely weigh this as a factor, and some just ignore them entirely. Also keep in mind that keyword meta tags and the meta tag description (this matters more) are two different items. The Fact: While keyword meta tags are not the “rankings gold” people think they are, it is a good idea to include proper use of them in your basic page optimization.

SEO Truths: Facts or Fictions?

Search Engine Optimization or SEO is considered part of Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and this has, over just 2 years, grown into a massive, multi-billion industry. Analysts vary in their estimates from $500 Million to $2.5 Billion and beyond. SEO has largely come about as a factor of overall Web growth. Developed countries account for 70% of the Web population and people use search engines as their starting point most of the time. Therefore, being found at the top of a search results page is deemed critical. Google has shown studies that after the 3rd link on a search results page, clicking drops by over 86% and less than 3% of people go to the second page. So what are you paying for with SEO companies? Some might argue not much.

Search By Headlines - Search, Post and Download the latest news from a large selection of industries

The three search engine heavyweights were present yesterday at the Search Marketing World 2008 conference in Dublin and one topic they were all keen to talk about was the future of search.  Search engine marketing remains very strong in the Irish market said Mike O’Shea, director for the EMEA region, inside sales organisation at Google.  O’Shea said the biggest challenge, however, was in educating small businesses and marketing agencies as online advertising currently only accounts for 1.5pc to 2.5pc of the overall advertising spend in an organisation’s budget.  When it comes to the future of search, O’Shea said it is most definitely going in the direction of mobile, a view echoed by Peter Cobley, regional UK sales manager for Yahoo!.  Cobley said: “Yahoo! is investing very heavily in mobile. However, everyone waxes lyrical about mobile as the next platform but it is not necessarily the panacea they think it is.  “Mobile penetration is huge in the western world, usage is huge, but for sucessful mobile search and advertising, user adoption of the mobile web and the provision of a use-friendly experience on the handset is needed.”

When SEO Isn’t Really SEO:

Filed under: Internet Advertising, Web Site Maintenance, blogging, google, marketing, meta, msn, seo, yahoo — content @ 8:00 am

A potential client recently asked a good question. She regularly reads various search-engine-optimization websites, and she was confused as to the current meaning of the term “SEO.”  What, she wondered, was the difference between SEO and online marketing?  Search engine optimization, or SEO, is constantly changing. As the major search engines update their algorithms and redefine how their search results will be determined and displayed, the SEO industry must adjust and redefine to follow those trends. But there is a new trend as well: Search optimizers going well beyond search engine results and into other marketing areas but still calling it SEO. It gets a bit confusing.

Definition of SEO - Search Engine Optimization

So as Your SEO Mentor I feel that the first basic thing I should teach is what SEO is and give you my definition of the word. Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of optimizing a website through an extensive mixture of tasks that help improve a website’s presence on the search engines. Again this is my own definition of SEO, but to better understand what SEO is you have to understand what a Search Engine is:

Internet Marketing Expertg Blog

Many brick and mortar companies that are catering to their local clientel find it hard to optimize their website for local markets despite targeting the best keywords. Quite naturally this is not a surprising matter as many of them, although efficient in running their off line businesses, typically stumble over two critical blocks. Stumbling Blocks and SEO for Local Markets  When local businesses set to do SEO for local markets, many of them invariably ignore the need to think rationally because they are advised by SEO experts to target the big three search engine users and sometimes get confused and tackle this feat on a global level resulting in global traffic. The direct fall out of this step is exposing your business offers, products or services to the world at large only to dilute all other local online SEO efforts. If your product is not global you are in trouble.

Organic Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization can be broken down into two separate yet intertwined categories. Non-organic or paid search optimization and organic, or unpaid search optimization. Paid search advertising relies on purchased search phrases to drive visitors to a website, while organic search optimization focuses on developing web sites that are naturally search engine friendly and appear in the unpaid or “”organic”" search engine results pages.
